Description
A rugged Goethite and Limonite pseudomorph after Marcasite, fully crystallised on all sides and displaying the classic “floater” formation with no point of attachment. This cabinet‑size specimen has a rough, scaly, dragon‑egg appearance, with natural iron‑oxide textures and metallic tones ranging from deep brown to silvery grey.
This piece remains completely natural, showcasing the raw, weathered surfaces formed through long‑term oxidation. The original Marcasite crystal architecture is still visible in the sculpted exterior, giving the specimen strong geological interest and a bold, tactile aesthetic.

This specimen comes from Blaengwynlais Quarry, Tongwynlais, Cardiff, South Wales, a locality known for producing distinctive Goethite and Limonite pseudomorphs formed through the natural oxidation of Marcasite. The quarry’s weathered iron‑rich deposits create rugged, fully crystallised floater specimens that are highly prized by collectors for their texture and geological character.
